29th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, was a unit of the pre-war regular army and went to France in 1914 as part of 4th Division. On 29th March, 1917, the brigade was at Arras in XVII Corps area, preparing for the major offensive that started there on 9th April. Around 6 pm, four 150mm shells fell near the position occupied by 127 Battery and one of them hit the house used as the cook house. Four men were killed in the resulting explosion. One of these was John Brown. |
